NAACP Heritage Award
1994 Resolution to Establish the NAACP Heritage Award
Whereas, the Jeffersonville/Clark County Branch of the NAACP since its inception has been blessed with exceptional and dedicated
leadership; and
Whereas, the Jeffersonville/Clark County Branch of the NAACP for more than Forty years was under the able leadership of such prominent
presidents as E.W. Bates, Sr., Thomas V. Bryant, and the late David “Ken” Bowyer; and
Whereas the presidents mentioned above faithfully lead the Jeffersonville/Clark County Branch of the NAACP in its eforts to improve the
political, educational, social, and economic status of African-Americans and other minoritiesl and
Whereas their leadership helped to sensitize the public to the adverse affects of racial discrimination;
Now therefore, we the Board of Directors and members of the Jeffersonville/Clark County Branch of the NAACP do establish the NAACP
Heritage Award of recognition of the outstanding service provided to the citizens of this community.
